Which categories are worth a creator's Black Friday links?

Part of: Black Friday and Cyber MondayFor creators

Black Friday is 27 November 2026 and Cyber Monday is 30 November — 87 and 90 days from today. The links you place in October are the ones that will be earning in November, so the category question is worth answering now rather than in week one of the season.

We pulled 8,596 product rows from 88 US advertisers on 1 September 2026 and scored four categories on the three things that actually decide whether a creator's link earns: what the basket is worth, whether the link survives, and whether the retailer will even show a discount.

Physical media is the category with the most stable creator links: retail stock, restockable, and a URL that does not die when one copy sells.

The four categories, scored

CategoryListingsAdvertisersMedian pricePeer-to-peer share
Discs: Blu-ray, 4K, steelbooks, Criterion10723$27.990.0%
Vinyl LPs4816$44.990.0%
Turntables and record players19422$79.996.2%
Y2K fashion and accessories238613$29.0098.7%

Why the peer-to-peer column is the important one

A peer-to-peer listing is one-of-one stock. When it sells, the URL does not fall back to a category page — it dies. That is fine for a shopping post that lives for a day and catastrophic for a gift guide you want ranking through December. Y2K fashion is 99% peer-to-peer; the disc lane is 0.0%.

We measured what that means rather than assuming it. Sampling 208 live affiliate destination links across 14 advertisers on 1 September 2026, 3 of the 124 links we could check had already 404'd — and two of the three were on the peer-to-peer marketplace, which was the only advertiser in the answering set with more than one dead link.

Left: a retail LP — restockable, and the URL survives the sale. Right: a one-of-one resale boot. Both convert; only one of them is still a working link in December.

Basket size, and the arithmetic nobody shows you

Affiliate earnings are clicks × conversion rate × basket value × commission rate. Three of those four are yours or your network's; only one is a property of the category, and it is the one you can check before you commit a season to a niche.

CategoryMedian listing priceValue of 100 converted clicksPer $100 of tracked sales, at rate r
Discs: Blu-ray, 4K, steelbooks, Criterion$27.99$2,799.00$100 × r
Vinyl LPs$44.99$4,499.00$100 × r
Turntables and record players$79.99$7,999.00$100 × r
Y2K fashion and accessories$29.00$2,900.00$100 × r

We have deliberately not filled in a commission rate. We do not have approved network terms to quote and we are not going to invent an industry-average number and dress it as research. Multiply the third column by whatever rate your own network actually offers you; that arithmetic is yours and it is the only version of it that is true.

The discount problem, which is specific to this season

A Black Friday post promises a saving. Here is how many of these advertisers publish a list price next to their selling price, which is the only way a saving can be verified at all:

AdvertiserRows in the pullRows with both a list and a sale priceRows marked down
Gruv121200

Woot!16400
Wayfair North America87500
Poshmark367134321763
UnbeatableSale.com140140140
Macy's14514531

Read the middle column. Four of the largest advertisers in this pull publish no list price at all — there is nothing in the data that says what a thing used to cost. And at the other end, 140 of 140 rows at one advertiser are marked down, which is to say its entire catalogue is permanently on sale and the strike-through is decoration.

The practical consequence for a creator: if you promise your audience a Black Friday saving on a category where no retailer publishes a reference price, you are making a claim you cannot substantiate and your audience cannot check. Write "this costs $X today" instead. It is defensible, it survives the retailer changing the price, and it does not age into a lie on 2 December.

What we would actually do with 87 days

  1. Build the evergreen pages on the retail lanes. Discs, vinyl and turntables: stable URLs, restockable, 0.0% to 6.2% peer-to-peer. These are the pages worth ranking.
  2. Use resale for the posts that are meant to be disposable. Y2K fashion converts on scarcity and dies on it too. A story or a same-week post, not a guide.
  3. Quote prices with dates attached, never percentages off. See above.
  4. Re-check every link in mid-November. The dead-link rate we measured is low across retail advertisers and concentrated in resale; it will not stay low through a selling season.
Honest empty: we cannot tell you what creators earn during Black Friday. We have no earnings data, no approved network terms and no conversion rates, and every number on this page is a property of the catalogue rather than of anybody's payouts. Any page quoting you a typical creator BFCM income figure should be asked where it got it.

Last verified 1 September 2026 against 8,596 product rows from 88 US advertisers in the CJ product feed, plus a live check of 208 affiliate destination URLs made during the same run. Black Friday and Cyber Monday dates are derived by calendar arithmetic from the fourth-Thursday Thanksgiving rule (26 November 2026).

Some links here are affiliate links. LinkToLooks has earned $0 from them to date — no network has approved us yet — so nothing on this page is picked to hit a payout.

Frequently asked

Which product categories are best for creator affiliate links at Black Friday?

Retail categories with restockable inventory. In this pull, discs, vinyl and turntables are 0.0% to 6.2% peer-to-peer, so their URLs survive a sale; Y2K fashion is 99% peer-to-peer and its links die when the single item sells.

How much do creators earn during Black Friday?

We do not know and we will not guess. Earnings are clicks × conversion × basket value × commission rate, and we can only measure the third of those: a median listing price of $27.99 in the disc lane up to $79.99 for turntables. LinkToLooks has earned $0 to date, so we have no payout data of our own to report either.

Should I promise my audience a percentage discount?

Not in categories where retailers publish no list price, which includes several of the largest advertisers in this pull. Quote the price and the date you checked it instead.
