Method: three keyword pulls returned 900 rows for player terms. Every one was read by eye.

The same model, two prices

The most useful thing in this data is not the format comparison, it is the retailer comparison. The Sony DVPSR510H, one specific machine, appears at $43.00 on sale against a $63.00 list at Abt and at $64.99 on Sony's own store. That is a 51% spread on an identical product, which is larger than the gap between the cheapest DVD deck and the cheapest Blu-ray deck.

The practical rule: decide the model first, then shop the model. Deciding the format first and then buying the cheapest thing in that format will cost you more.

What the search results are full of

Worth knowing if you are searching yourself. Of the 900 rows returned for player keywords, the large majority were not disc players. The recurring false positives, in order of volume: car audio and video head units filed under DVD player; external USB CD/DVD-RW drives for laptops; the films Ready Player One and How to Be a Player; disc-lens cleaning kits; DVD player carry bags; and one spindle motor assembly. Add the word deck or a model prefix to your search and most of that disappears.

Honest empty: no 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray deck appeared in these feeds at all, from any retailer. If you want 4K disc playback, these are not the listings that will get you there.

Last verified 1 September 2026 against 16 confirmed consumer disc players from 9 US advertisers in the CJ product feed, each listing opened and read before inclusion. 36 keyword queries against US affiliate product feeds on 1 September 2026, 9,977 raw rows deduplicated to 3,980 unique listing URLs across 40 advertisers. Peer-to-peer asks of $500 or more are dropped as seller placeholders, as are repdigit asks such as $99 and $999. These are asking prices on this date, not sold prices.

Buying a disc player, asked plainly

Who still sells DVD players?

Nine US retailers list them in affiliate feeds on 1 September 2026: Sony direct, Abt Electronics, Office Depot, Zoro, Macy's, antonline, P.C. Richard & Son, MRO Supreme and Wayfair.

How much does a DVD player cost in 2026?

A median of $48.77 across 16 confirmed decks, with a floor of $37.29 for a single-disc machine and a ceiling of $131.99 for a Blu-ray deck with DVD upconversion.
