Which physical media players can you still buy new?

Checklist of physical media players: pocket CD players, CD boomboxes with radio and CD and cassette combination decks are still sold new; new VCRs are gone since Funai stopped in July 2016 and new LaserDisc players since Pioneer left in July 2009. — CD players, boomboxes and CD-cassette decks are still sold new, 93 listings from 20 US advertisers on 14 September 2026; VCRs ended with Funai in July 2016 and LaserDisc players with Pioneer in July 2009.Illustration: LinkToLooks

CD players, boomboxes and CD-cassette combination decks are still manufactured and sold new: 93 listings from 20 US advertisers appear in a single affiliate feed pull made on 14 September 2026, at a median ask of $60.00. VCRs are not. Funai of Japan, the last manufacturer of VHS equipment in the world, stopped in July 2016, and nothing in this pull is a new VCR.

That split is the whole story of physical media hardware in 2026. Disc and tape audio survived because the mechanisms are cheap to make and the format never fully died in cars, classrooms and churches. Video tape did not.

Prices are asks published on 1 September 2026. We give the price and its date and never a percentage off, because five advertisers in this pull mark down their entire catalogue permanently.

On the cheapest CD boomboxes, the specification that gets cut is the anti-skip memory, not the sound. Wikipedia's CD player entry, listed in the sources below, covers anti-skip buffering.

What is genuinely gone

New VCRs. Production of all VHS equipment ended in 2016; every player you can buy is second-hand and unserviced.
New LaserDisc players. Pioneer, the last manufacturer, left the market in July 2009.
New pre-recorded VHS tapes at scale. There is a niche revival - This Is How The World Ends became the first straight-to-VHS release in twenty years in 2026 - but no US advertiser in this pull sells a new pre-recorded tape.

The practical consequence, and it is the reason this list is worth having: if you are buying into a format in 2026, the audio formats come with a warranty and the video formats do not. A $23 CD-cassette deck is new stock. A VCR at any price is a thirty-year-old machine with rubber belts in it.

This page counts what one affiliate feed carries, not what exists. Large general retailers sell far more of these than the 22 advertisers here, and their absence from the feed is not evidence about the market.

Last verified 14 September 2026, computed from 93 CD player and boombox listings across 20 US advertisers and 330 VHS-matching rows in the same pull, read to 30 pages of 100 rows per keyword. A row counts only if its title names something that plays a disc or a tape, which excludes the Bluetooth speakers and the video game that the word boombox also returns; September's looser rule gives a median of $68.69 today against $69.99 then. Price figures are computed from a CJ Affiliate product-feed pull of US advertisers made on 1 September 2026. Peer-to-peer marketplace asks of $500 or more are excluded as seller placeholders, as are repdigit asks such as $999 and $9,999 wherever they appear; retailer prices are used as published. Counts are deduplicated row counts, never a feed totalCount.
