Most 1990s plush is not gone. It is being made right now, under licence, by companies that were not making it in the 1990s — which is a different thing from a reissue and matters if you care what you are buying. 270 new plush listings from US retailers were priced on 1 September 2026, at a median of $19.99.

Two things jump out of that table. First, everything sits in a narrow band — these are $15-to-$30 toys almost without exception. Second, the ranges barely overlap with the resale market: across all 549 priced plush listings here, including secondhand, the median is $22.00. Buying new is not a compromise on price.

What is genuinely hard to find
- The original moulds and fabrics. A 2026 Reptar is a current toy wearing a 1990s design. The pile, the stuffing density and usually the size are all different, and no listing will tell you so.
- Discontinued characters. Current runs carry the four or five characters a licensor thinks will sell. Everyone else is secondhand only.
- Promotional and fast-food plush. Never re-made, by definition, since the promotion is the point.
Our line on this: buy new if you want the character, buy secondhand if you want the object. People are frequently disappointed by new nostalgia plush and it is almost always because they wanted the second thing while shopping for the first.
