The answer has changed since this page was written, and changed against waiting. On 14 September 2026, 74 days before Black Friday, 53.1% of 64 headphone listings from US retailers carried a sale price, at a median markdown of 45%, and 14.1% were at 50% or more. Two weeks ago those figures were 21.9%, 28.0% and four listings. The deep discount this page told you to wait for is already on the shelf for headphones specifically. Bluetooth speakers are the other way: 20.4% discounted at a median 30%, so there the September advice still holds.

Last verified 14 September 2026 across 231 headphone and Bluetooth speaker listings from conventional US retailers in live product feeds, read to a depth of 30 pages of 100 rows per keyword. The counts are smaller than September's and are not comparable with them; the discounted SHARE is a ratio within each run and is. The tables below the fold carry September's counts and are marked with that date. Peer-to-peer marketplace listings are excluded, because a marketplace sale price is a seller repricing rather than a retail discount.

That is the whole answer in one table. Four out of five listings are at full price. Of the fifth that is discounted, the typical cut is a bit under 30%, and genuine half-price is vanishingly rare — eight listings out of 483.

Physical media is the extreme case: discs are essentially never discounted in September. Apparel is the opposite — more than half of it is already marked down, and 1,609 of those rows are at 50% or more, which means a November "50% off" banner in clothing is describing the everyday price.

Personal audio sits between the two, and that is why the answer here is a genuine "it depends" rather than a slogan.

Bluetooth speakers had a median asking price of $29.99 in the live US retail product feeds read on 14 September 2026. On an order of about $30, a 30% cut is worth about $9.

Buying a specific model? Check whether more than one retailer lists it now. In physical media we found the same product at 1.54 times the price between retailers at the median — a bigger gap than the typical seasonal discount, available today.
Buying apparel or accessories? Waiting buys you very little. That market is already more than half marked down.
