Resale runs about half of retail, and that is the whole decision. Across 800 live US listings pulled on 3 September 2026, marketplace resale had a $60.00 median and conventional retailers $117.95.
The catch is that 90% of what you find is resale, so the retail comparison is thin unless you go looking for it. Below is every retailer that appeared, what each one's stock costs, and the models each carries.

Zappos is the only conventional retailer here with a deep enough assortment to browse by model rather than by luck. Everyone else is carrying a handful of styles, which is why their quartiles are so wide — a seven-listing sample containing one clog and one EVA sandal spans a hundred dollars for reasons that have nothing to do with pricing policy.
The resale half, and what it costs you
This category is unusual in how completely resale dominates it. Of the 800 listings we sampled, 716 were marketplace rows. That is not a quirk of our sample: reading the same catalogue at five different depths, down to the 9,000th row, the marketplace share stayed above 79% every time.

What the price gap buys the retailer, and what it costs you at a marketplace:
- Size. These run in EU sizes with a regular and a narrow width. A resale listing may state one, both or neither.
- Condition. Cork edges crumble and suede linings compress. A photograph taken from above shows you neither.
- Returns. Marketplace return terms are set per seller and are the single largest practical difference.
- The model name. On a resale listing it is whatever the seller typed. Our own model counts had to be read out of listing titles for exactly this reason.

If you know which shape you want, the retail-versus-resale gap is not uniform. Some models barely reach conventional retail in this catalogue at all.

Two readings worth taking from that table. The EVA is the one model where resale barely saves you anything — a $10 gap on a moulded shoe that is cheap new. And the Mayari and Gizeh show the widest gaps, better than half off, which is also where condition risk bites hardest because a thong strap is the part that wears.
On waiting for a sale
We can tell you what today costs. We cannot tell you what November will cost, and anyone who says otherwise about this category is guessing. What we can say is structural:
- Resale pricing is set per seller and does not follow a retail calendar, so waiting for a sale event is a retail strategy, not a marketplace one.
- Sandal stock at conventional retailers thins going into winter, and the clog and closed-toe shapes are the ones that stay on shelves.

Marketplace sellers list individual used pairs, so one marketplace can carry tens of thousands of rows where a retailer carries a few hundred product pages. 90% of the listings we sampled came from two resale marketplaces.
Method and scope
- 92,283 live US in-stock listings under this brand in the CJ product catalogue on 3 September 2026; 800 sampled across eight pages.
- Seller rows show every advertiser appearing in the sample. Medians and quartiles use the sale price where one was set, otherwise list price.
- The marketplace-share figure was checked at five read depths, to offset 0 through 9,000, rather than only on the first page of results.
