Best affiliate programs for outdoor creators
The reachable outdoor catalogue is far narrower than the outdoor industry, and knowing the gap saves you writing posts you cannot link.
Some links here are affiliate links — if you buy, the retailer may pay us a commission at no extra cost to you. We have earned $0 from them so far. Here’s how it works.
Part of: For creators
The outdoor catalogue reachable to an affiliate creator is much narrower than the outdoor industry. Across 1,492 live US listings for hiking boots, tents and sleeping bags on 3 September 2026, just 22 advertisers appeared — and one resale marketplace supplied 831 of them.
That shapes what you can actually link. Below is every retailer that surfaced, what its stock is worth, and the specialists that did not appear at all.

Who is actually in the catalogue
These are the advertisers that appeared when we searched an affiliate product catalogue for hiking boots, camping tents and sleeping bags, counted across 1,492 strictly title-matched live US listings.
| Advertiser | Listings | What it brings to an outdoor creator |
|---|---|---|
| Poshmark | 831 | Used gear, individual listings, deep but one-of-a-kind |
| Wayfair | 386 | New tents and camp furniture, thin on technical wear |
| Knetbooks | 62 | Not outdoor gear — textbooks matched by the keyword |
| Miles District | 51 | Merino socks and technical accessories |
| UnbeatableSale.com | 32 | General discount stock |
| Zoro | 26 | Industrial and workwear crossover |
| BOOKSAMILLION | 24 | Again books, not gear |
| Academy | 16 | Mainstream sporting goods |
| Woot! | 7 | Rotating clearance |
| Macy's | 7 | Occasional outdoor apparel |
| DailySteals | 6 | Rotating clearance |
1,492 live US in-stock listings across three outdoor keywords, 3 September 2026. DICK'S Sporting Goods, Public Lands and Blain Farm & Fleet appeared in adjacent pulls the same morning.

Two of those rows are books. That is not a typo and it is worth understanding, because it will happen to you: the catalogue matches multi-word searches loosely, so ‘camping tent’ returns camping guidebooks from a textbook seller. If you search a catalogue by keyword and link the first plausible result, you will eventually link a book about tents.
The three categories behave differently
Hiking boots — almost entirely resale
- 500 live listings, 3 advertisers, median $40.00.
- 479 of the 500 came from one resale marketplace.
- Brands surfacing most: Merrell (43), Columbia (40), Keen (33), Timberland (26), Vasque (24), Danner (11).
- Practical effect: you can link a boot brand, but usually only as somebody's used pair in one size. That is a hard link to give an audience.
Camping tents — new stock, wrong retailers

- 500 live listings, 18 advertisers, median $100.49, quartiles $37.38 and $199.99.
- Wayfair supplied 339 of them — a home retailer, not an outdoor specialist.
- 84 of the 500 came from book sellers matching the keyword.
- Practical effect: linkable, but the assortment is family camping rather than backcountry.
Sleeping bags — the widest spread

- 492 live listings, 16 advertisers, median $25.00.
- The lowest median of the three, pulled down by children's and character-licensed bags.
- Miles District, UnbeatableSale, Zoro and Academy all carried real stock here.
- Practical effect: the easiest of the three to link at a price an audience will act on, and the least technical.

Who is not there
The outdoor retailers a creator would name first — the co-ops, the technical specialists, the brand-direct stores — did not appear anywhere in our sample. We want to be careful about what that means:
- It does not mean they have no affiliate programme. Many run programmes on networks we cannot see.
- It does mean they are not reachable this way. If your linking workflow is ‘search the catalogue I have access to’, they are invisible to it.
- It means brand-direct applications matter more in this niche than in categories where a big-box retailer covers most of the demand.
- It means your first job is a list, not a search. Write down the ten brands you actually recommend and go and find each one's own programme page.
Why there is no commission table here
Every guide to affiliate programmes in this niche ends with a rate table. Ours does not, and the reason is worth stating rather than hiding.
We checked the product API's schema again this morning rather than taking an earlier note on trust. The catalogue exposes product and feed queries only — there is no advertiser, programme or commission field on it at all. We also hold no network approvals, so we have no dashboard to read rates from either.
The rate tables circulating elsewhere are mostly copied between blogs and go stale silently. We would rather give you the part we can actually verify — who stocks what, at what price, on a dated morning — and tell you plainly to get the rate from the programme's own page before you plan around it.
What to do with this
- Separate gear you recommend from gear you can link. In this niche they are different lists, and pretending otherwise produces posts full of near-matches.
- Apply brand-direct for your top ten. The specialists are not in the general catalogues, so the general catalogues will not get you there.
- Treat resale links as one-of-one. A used boot listing is gone when it sells, and your post is not.
- Use order value, not commission rate, to prioritise. A tent at a $100.49 median is worth several boot links at $40.00, whatever the percentages turn out to be.
- Say when you could not find a link. Naming a boot and admitting you could not link it is better than linking a different boot.
Frequently asked
What are the best affiliate programs for outdoor creators?
We can tell you which outdoor retailers are actually reachable in the catalogue we can see: DICK'S Sporting Goods, Academy, Public Lands, Blain Farm & Fleet, Zoro and Wayfair all carried outdoor stock on 3 September 2026. We cannot rank them by commission, because the catalogue API exposes no commission data at all.
How much do outdoor creators earn per sale?
We will not give you an earnings figure, because we hold no network approvals and have earned nothing. What we can give you is order value: a $40.00 median on hiking boots, $100.49 on tents and $25.00 on sleeping bags across 1,492 live listings.
Is REI in the affiliate catalogues?
It did not appear in our sample. That is not the same as saying it has no programme — it means it was not among the 22 advertisers that surfaced for outdoor keywords in the catalogue our company ID can see.
Why do outdoor searches return so much resale?
Because marketplace sellers list individual used items. Poshmark was 831 of the 1,492 outdoor listings we pulled, and 479 of the 500 hiking boot listings on its own.
Method and scope
- 1,492 live US in-stock listings, strictly title-matched, across three outdoor keywords (hiking boots, camping tent, sleeping bag), pulled from the CJ product catalogue on 3 September 2026.
- Advertiser counts are of listings, not of products, and describe what one catalogue exposed to one company ID on one morning. They are floors, not censuses.
- The absence of a retailer from this table means it did not appear in our sample. It is not a statement about whether that retailer runs an affiliate programme.
- No commission rate appears on this page because the catalogue API exposes none, re-verified by schema introspection during this run, and because we hold no network approvals.
- We have not used, worn or tested any outdoor product mentioned here.

How this guide was made. We research and draft these guides with AI, then a person checks every price, link and factual claim against the source before it publishes. We work this way because it lets us re-verify prices across hundreds of guides in a day, which is what keeps the numbers here current; it does not decide what we recommend. Anything we could not verify is labelled as unverified rather than filled in.
