Hot Topic and BoxLunch between them held 247 of 357 live US listings on 2 September 2026, with a resale marketplace supplying another 98 and six other retailers sharing the remainder. The median asking price was $29.52, middle half $20.72 to $37.52.
The finding that should change how you shop it: every one of Hot Topic’s 188 listings carried a sale price below list — 188 of 188, at a median 20% below the stated list price. Across the whole category, 231 of 282 priced listings were discounted.

Two of those nine are the same company. Hot Topic and BoxLunch are sibling retailers, so what looks like a two-horse race for 69% of the category is closer to one buyer making the range decisions. That is worth knowing before you treat a price at one as a check on the other.
Everything was on sale
We check list price against sale price on every pull, because a “sale” that is permanent is a price. This category produced the most extreme result we have measured in any product family:

Editorial judgment: read the list price on this category as decoration. When 100% of one retailer’s stock is marked down, the marked-down number is the price and the crossed-out one is marketing. That is not an accusation of anything improper — it is how apparel merchandising works — but it does mean “20% off” here is not a reason to buy today rather than in three weeks.
What is actually in the range
The category is narrower than the attraction’s reputation suggests. Sorted by what we actually saw live:
- Apparel dominates. Sweatshirts, hoodies and t-shirts at $29.52 to $37.52 make up most of the listings at the two main retailers.
- Accessories are the second tier — bags, drinkware and small goods, mostly $20 to $30.
- Home and seasonal decor is thin: three listings, including a garden inflatable at $133.03 that is a Halloween product rather than a Disney one.
- Park-exclusive items are resale only. Anything sold inside a park reaches the open market second-hand, one item at a time.

What you are buying merchandise from
Useful context for judging whether a listing is on-theme. The Haunted Mansion opened at Disneyland on 9 August 1969, at the Magic Kingdom on 1 October 1971 and at Tokyo Disneyland on 15 April 1983.
The motifs that recur across the merchandise all come from the ride: the 999 happy haunts, the stretching room, the Doom Buggies, Madame Leota — the medium whose head appears inside a levitating crystal ball — the ballroom illusion, and the hitchhiking ghosts in the mirrors near the exit. A design using those is drawing on the attraction; one using generic gothic imagery is not.
There is also a seasonal overlay, Haunted Mansion Holiday, running since 2001 and drawing on The Nightmare Before Christmas. Merchandise that mixes the two properties is referencing that overlay rather than confusing two films.
