How to become a TikTok affiliate: the gates, in order

Part of: TikTok for creatorsFor creators

Becoming a TikTok affiliate means getting into TikTok Shop's affiliate marketplace, which is separate from the Creator Rewards Program. The gates are account age and standing, region, a supported account type, and a follower minimum that has historically been far lower than the 10,000 the Rewards Program requires.

Failing a gate is usually fixable. Which one you failed determines how.

The gates, in the order they apply

Work through these in order, because the later ones cannot be assessed until the earlier ones pass.

1. Region

TikTok Shop operates in a defined set of markets and the affiliate marketplace exists only inside them. If your account region is outside those markets, nothing else on this list matters and no amount of growth changes it. Check this first; people spend months on the wrong problem.

2. Account type and standing

Your account must be in good standing under Community Guidelines and the Terms of Service. Violations, even resolved ones, are the most common invisible blocker — invisible because the rejection notice rarely tells you which rule you tripped.

3. Age

18 or over. This is the same floor as the Creator Rewards Program and it is not negotiable or appealable.

4. Followers

The affiliate marketplace has historically used a much lower follower floor than the Rewards Program's 10,000. We are not going to give you a single number for it, because TikTok has changed it by region and over time and we could not retrieve an authoritative current figure — the Seller Center documentation returned an authorisation error to us. The number you should trust is the one the app shows you when you open the affiliate section of your own account.

5. Content history

A brand-new account with three videos is a harder case than a two-year-old account with a consistent subject, regardless of follower parity. This is a judgement TikTok makes rather than a published threshold.

What to do when you fail one

Gate you failedIs it fixable? What actually works
Regionnonothing on TikTok. Use retailer affiliate programmes, which are not region-gated the same way
Account standingusuallyresolve outstanding violations, then wait out the cooling period before reapplying
Agewith timewait. Do not use another person's account; that ends badly
Followersyesthe slowest gate but the most predictable one
Content historyyespost consistently on one subject; breadth reads as noise

The one piece of advice worth more than the table: apply to retailer affiliate programmes in parallel. They are approved by networks rather than by TikTok, they are not gated on your follower count in the same way, and the links work on every platform including the ones you have not started yet. A creator waiting on TikTok Shop approval with no other programme is waiting with nothing.

The two programmes people conflate

Half the confusion about TikTok eligibility comes from mixing up two different things with different gates.

If you have been told you need 10,000 followers to earn on TikTok, that is the Rewards Program's number and it does not apply to selling. Plenty of accounts too small for the Rewards Program can earn commission.

What happens after approval

Approval gets you into a marketplace, not into an income. Three things decide what happens next, and none of them is your follower count:

Honest empty: we cannot give you the current follower threshold for the TikTok Shop affiliate marketplace. TikTok has moved it, it differs by region, and the documentation that would settle it returned an authorisation error to us. Pages quoting one confidently are quoting a number from an unstated date.

Platform rules checked 1 September 2026. TikTok changes commerce and creator-programme rules frequently, and the authoritative version lives behind a login in Seller Center and the TikTok app. Confirm anything here against your own account before you rely on it.

Zero-earnings disclosure: LinkToLooks has been approved by no affiliate network and has earned $0 in affiliate revenue to date. Nothing here is an earnings claim, a projection, or a promise of income.

Becoming a TikTok affiliate, asked plainly

How do you become a TikTok affiliate?

Through TikTok Shop's affiliate marketplace, which is separate from the Creator Rewards Program. The gates are region, account standing, age 18 or over, a follower minimum set by TikTok, and a reasonable content history.

Do you need 10,000 followers to be a TikTok affiliate?

No. 10,000 followers is the Creator Rewards Program threshold, which pays for views. The Shop affiliate marketplace has historically used a much lower floor.

What if my application is rejected?

It depends which gate you failed. Region is not fixable on TikTok; account standing usually is; followers and content history are slow but predictable. Apply to retailer affiliate programmes in parallel, because those are approved by networks rather than by TikTok.

What happens after approval?

You get access to a marketplace, not an income. What matters next is whether sellers in your subject are on it, the ticket price of what you cover, and whether the stock persists long enough for your links to stay alive.
