A key light for a creator’s desk: four checks, and the four lights that cleared them

Chosen by specification; not tested. Each threshold is read from the maker’s own page, and each price carries the date it was listed.

Part of: For creators

A key light is the main light on a creator’s face, and a desk model with accurate colour and a warm-to-cool range is a gift they can set up on the day. On 12 October 2026 four lights cleared all four checks below: the Logitech Litra Glow, from $64.60 at antonline; the Elgato Key Light Neo in black, $89.99 at Full Compass; the Logitech Litra Beam, $119.99 at antonline and at Macy’s; and the Elgato Key Light, $179.99 at Full Compass and at Dell.

There is no ranking here and no single pick. The checks are spelled out so any other light can be held against them, and the four that cleared them differ most in what they plug into. We have not used or handled any of these lights: chosen by specification; not tested.

Four lights compared by what each plugs into and the brightest output its maker lists.
Three of the four lights run from USB; the Elgato Key Light is the only one that needs a wall socket, and the Key Light Neo's output depends on what it is plugged into.Illustration: LinkToLooks

The four checks a light had to clear

Missing any one check took a light off the list. The thresholds are ours, and the right-hand column says why we set each one; none is an industry rule.

CheckA light clears it whenWhy we set it
Colour accuracyThe maker lists a colour rendering index (CRI) of 90 or moreOur threshold: skin and products should look on camera the way they look in the room
Warm to coolThe maker lists an adjustable colour temperature that covers 3000K to 6500KOur choice: wide enough to match a warm lamp in the evening and daylight from a window
A mount in the boxThe maker lists a monitor mount, desk stand or desk clamp among the box contentsSo the light can be set up without buying a stand first
Two US retailersThe same barcode (GTIN), new and in stock, at two or more named US retailers on 12 October 2026So the gift does not depend on one shop and the prices can be compared

Four lights that cleared every check

Listed from the lowest price up. The specification columns are taken from each maker’s page, checked 12 Oct 2026. Prices are what each retailer listed for a new, in-stock unit on 12 Oct 2026; they change often, so open the listing before buying.

Two notes on the table. Elgato’s Key Light page gives two CRI figures: above 92% in its technical specifications and above 94% in its comparison table; we show the lower one, and both clear the check. Dell lists the Key Light’s barcode and part number, 10GAK9901, under the title “Corsair Spot Light”; Elgato’s own page calls the same SKU the Key Light. Logitech also lists the Litra Glow and Litra Beam with removable mounts that reveal ¼-20 threads for a standard tripod.

A light is missing from this page because it failed a check or because we did not find it new and in stock at two named US retailers under one barcode on 12 October 2026. The Logitech Litra Beam LX was listed at one named retailer that day, so it is not here; that says nothing about the light. How bright each light looks on camera was not one of the checks.

How the four differ once they are on the desk

The four share the checks above, but the makers describe very different objects. Everything in this table is the makers’ description, not something we measured.

Check the desk and the plug first

Before choosing, look at where the creator films. The Elgato Key Light is the only one of the four that needs a wall socket: it ships with a power supply and Elgato lists up to 45W of power use. Its Master Mount L clamps to a desk edge up to 2.35 in (60 mm) thick and holds the panel between 22 and 49 inches (55 to 125 cm) up, so a desk top thicker than 2.35 in (60 mm) will not take the clamp.

The other three run from USB, and what they are plugged into matters. Elgato lists the Key Light Neo at 400 lumens on a USB-A port, 700 on USB-C and 1000 only with an external power supply of 3A or more. Logitech lists a USB 3.0 port for the Litra Glow, and a USB 3.1 Gen 2 port or a 5V 1.4A adapter for the Litra Beam at full brightness (all checked 12 Oct 2026). A light plugged into a lower-powered port than its maker lists may not reach the output the maker gives.

Questions

Does a key light need a wall socket?

Not always. Of the four lights here, only the Elgato Key Light ships with a power supply for the wall. The Logitech Litra Glow, the Logitech Litra Beam and the Elgato Key Light Neo run from USB, and Elgato says the Key Light Neo reaches its highest output of 1000 lumens only on an external USB power supply of 3A or more (checked 12 October 2026).

What does CRI mean on a light’s specification list?

CRI is the colour rendering index, a measure of how accurately colours look under the light. Elgato’s Key Light page describes 90 or more as excellent. The makers list both Logitech lights at 93, the Key Light Neo above 94% and the Key Light above 92% in its technical specifications (checked 12 October 2026).

Were these lights tested?

No. They were chosen by specification; not tested. Each threshold comes from the maker’s own page, and each price is the retailer’s listed price on 12 October 2026.

How the figures were gathered

On 12 October 2026 we read Logitech’s product pages for the Litra Glow and the Litra Beam and Elgato’s product pages for the Key Light Neo and the Key Light, for colour rendering, colour range, box contents, output, power, controls and size. Retailer prices come from each retailer’s own listing data through CJ Affiliate, matched by barcode (GTIN), keeping only new, in-stock listings. Dell’s two pages were also opened directly, and the Dell prices above are the prices those pages showed. The antonline, Full Compass, Macy’s and Zoro prices come from listing data only, because their pages refused our requests. A price is the sale price where a retailer lists one, otherwise its listed price. Listings from marketplace sellers that trade under other shop names were left out. We have not used or handled any of these products.
