Creator Desk

A 4K webcam gift for a creator who films at a desk: five tests, and the three webcams that passed them

Chosen by specification; not tested. Every threshold below is read from the maker’s own page, and every price carries the date we read it.

Part of: For creators

For a creator who records or streams from a desk, a 4K webcam that also films 1080p at 60 frames a second and screws onto a tripod is a gift they can set up the day they open it. On 11 October 2026 three webcams passed all five tests below: the Logitech Brio, $169.99 at Full Compass and at antonline; the Elgato Facecam 4K, $199.99 at Full Compass and $218.99 at Zoro; and the Logitech MX Brio in black, $199.99 at Abt, antonline and Macy’s.

Nothing here is ranked and there is no winner. The five tests are written out so you can hold any other webcam up to them. We have not used or handled any of these webcams: chosen by specification; not tested.

Checklist of five required tests (4K at 30 fps or more, 1080p at 60 fps, widest view 90 degrees or more, tripod thread, same barcode at two or more US retailers) and the three webcams that passed on 11 October 2026: Logitech Brio from $169.99, Elgato Facecam 4K from $199.99, Logitech MX Brio $199.99.
Every webcam had to pass all five tests; on 11 October 2026 three did, and only the Elgato Facecam 4K is listed by its maker at 4K and 60 frames a second.Illustration: LinkToLooks

Five tests, all required

A webcam stayed on the list only if it passed every test. The last column says which thresholds are our own choice; none of them is an industry standard.

TestPasses whenReason
4K videoThe maker lists 4K (Ultra HD) video at 30 frames a second or moreOur choice: room to crop a desk shot and still deliver a sharp frame
1080p at 60 fpsThe maker lists 1080p video at 60 frames a secondOur choice: the common streaming resolution, with smooth motion
A 90° viewThe widest diagonal field of view the maker lists is 90° or moreOur threshold: wide enough for a person and part of the desk
Tripod threadThe maker lists a thread on the camera for a tripodOur choice: the camera can sit on a stand at eye level, not only on top of a monitor
Two US retailersThe same barcode (GTIN), new and in stock, at two or more named US retailers on 11 October 2026So the gift is not tied to one shop, and the price can be compared

Three webcams that passed

Ordered by lowest price, then by name. Specification columns quote each maker’s page, checked 11 Oct 2026. Prices are each retailer’s listed price for a new, in-stock unit on 11 Oct 2026. Prices move, so open the listing before you buy.

The Elgato is the only one of the three that Elgato lists at 4K and 60 frames a second; both Logitech webcams top out at 4K and 30. Elgato also lists HDR video on the Facecam 4K up to 4K at 30 frames a second. Logitech’s own store lists the MX Brio in Pale Gray, Graphite and Black, and showed its Black (960-001558) out of stock there on 11 Oct 2026; the black listing above is that part number, which Abt, antonline and Macy’s sell under one barcode.

Two other Logitech listings, the MX Brio 705 for Business and the Brio Stream, were at two named retailers on 11 Oct 2026. We did not read their specification pages, so they are not on this page; that is not a judgment against them. Any other webcam is absent because it missed a test or because we did not find it at two named retailers under one barcode that day. Picture quality was never one of the tests.

Where the three part ways

All three passed the same five tests, but the makers describe three different things in the box and behind the lens. These are the makers’ descriptions, not our findings.

Logitech BrioLogitech MX BrioElgato Facecam 4K
FocusAutofocusAdvanced AutofocusFixed: 30 to 120 cm (11.8 to 47.2 in) at 4K; 25 cm (9.8 in) to infinity at 1080p
Privacy coverFlippable privacy shade, includedBuilt-in privacy shutterCap, sold as an accessory
Cable in the boxUSB 3.0 cable for a USB-A port, 1.5 mDetachable USB-C to USB-C, USB 3.0, 1.5 mDetachable USB-C to USB-C 3.0, 200 cm

Fixed focus matters for where the creator sits. At 4K, Elgato states a focus range of 30 to 120 cm for the Facecam 4K, so a creator who leans closer than 30 cm to show a product, or who sits farther than 120 cm away, is outside the range the maker states; at 1080p Elgato states 25 cm (9.8 in) to infinity. Both Logitech webcams list autofocus instead.

Before you buy: the computer’s ports

Find out which computer the creator records on and what ports it has. All three makers point to USB 3.0: Logitech says the Brio needs USB 3.0 for 4K; Logitech lists a USB-C port supporting the USB 3.0 standard as what you need for the MX Brio; and Elgato says USB 2.0 ports give the Facecam 4K only up to 1080p (checked 11 Oct 2026).

The plug matters as much as the speed. The Brio ships with a cable that plugs into a USB-A port. The MX Brio and the Facecam 4K ship with USB-C to USB-C cables, and Elgato says a USB-A port needs an adapter that is not included. If the creator’s computer has only USB-A ports, the Brio is the one of the three that connects with what is in its box.

Questions

Will a 4K webcam work with any computer?

Not every computer. Each maker lists requirements: Elgato lists Windows 11 or later or macOS 13 or later for the Facecam 4K, and Logitech lists Windows 10 or later or macOS 10.15 or later for the MX Brio. USB speed matters too: Logitech says the Brio needs USB 3.0 for 4K, Logitech lists a USB-C port supporting USB 3.0 for the MX Brio, and Elgato says the Facecam 4K gives only up to 1080p over USB 2.0 (checked 11 October 2026).

Does a webcam come with a privacy cover?

It depends on the model. Logitech lists a built-in privacy shutter on the MX Brio and an attachable privacy shade with the Brio; Elgato lists the Facecam 4K privacy cap as an accessory, and its box contents are the camera, a monitor mount and a cable (checked 11 October 2026).

Were these webcams tested?

No. They were chosen by specification; not tested. Each threshold comes from the maker’s own page, and each price is the retailer’s listed price on 11 October 2026.

Where each figure was read

On 11 October 2026 we read Logitech’s product pages for the Brio and the MX Brio and Elgato’s product page for the Facecam 4K, for video modes, field of view, tripod mounting, focus, privacy cover, cable and port requirements. We read each retailer’s own listing data for the same products through CJ Affiliate, matched listings by barcode (GTIN), and kept only new, in-stock listings. The Abt listing for the MX Brio was also opened directly. The Full Compass, antonline, Macy’s and Zoro prices come from their listing data only, because their pages refused our requests. A price is the retailer’s sale price where it lists one, otherwise its listed price. We have not used or handled any of these products.
