Do links in a TikTok bio actually work?

Part of: TikTok for creators

Yes, but only from the profile’s website field, and that field is not available to every account. Links typed into a video caption, a comment or the bio text itself are not clickable. We could not read TikTok’s own current eligibility rules from a primary source on 1 September 2026, so rather than repeat a threshold we cannot show you, this page gives you the check that settles it for your account in about a minute.

Everything a bio link does is get a person from a video to a page like this one. The question is only whether your account has the field at all.

We publish no income screenshots, no creator case studies and no testimonials, because we have none. Where a link is and is not clickable

PlacementClickable?What actually happens
Profile website fieldYes, when the field is available to your accountRenders as a tappable link under the bio text. This is the reliable placement.
Bio text itselfNoA URL typed into the bio renders as plain text. People can read it and retype it; almost nobody does.
Video captionNoCaptions are not hyperlinked. A URL there is decoration.
Comments, including your own pinned commentNoReadable, not tappable. Still useful as a signpost to the profile.
Linked social accountsYes, to those platformsA separate field from the website one, and it goes to a social profile rather than an arbitrary URL.

The practical consequence is that every link you want to give a TikTok viewer has to travel through one profile slot, or through in-app commerce features. That is the constraint the whole link-in-bio category exists to work around.

The 60-second test on your own account

  1. Open your profile and tap Edit profile.
  2. Look for a Website field in the list. If it is there, your account can carry a bio link; if the field is absent, it cannot, today.
  3. If it is there, paste a URL and save.
  4. Open your own profile from a logged-out or second device and tap the link. This step matters : a link that saves is not necessarily a link that renders to other people.
  5. Confirm the destination loads inside the in-app browser, not just in your phone’s main browser.

This test is worth more than any article on the subject, this one included, because it reports the state of your account right now rather than a rule that may have changed since it was written.

What we could verify, and what we could not

We think publishing the gap is more useful than filling it with a number, so here is exactly what happened when we went looking on 1 September 2026. Note the first two rows: we are not claiming to have verified those either, only that they are stable, long-standing in-app behaviour that the test above settles for your own account in a minute.

ClaimOur verification status
A tappable website field exists on TikTok profilesNot verified from a source. Public TikTok profile pages returned only a loading placeholder to our client, so we confirmed nothing on the live site. Confirm it yourself with the test above.
Captions and comments are not hyperlinkedNot verified from a source, for the same reason. Long-standing in-app behaviour; check it in the app rather than taking our word.
The website field requires a specific follower countNot verified. A threshold is widely repeated across affiliate blogs; none of them cite TikTok. We could not reach a primary source that states it.
Business accounts get the field regardless of followersNot verified, same reason.
The rules are identical in every countryNot verified, and we would not assume it.
The verification attempt, in full: TikTok’s support article on linking a website redirects to a support FAQ page whose body text is rendered by JavaScript, so a non-JavaScript client receives a page containing only the heading. Public TikTok profile pages returned only a "Please wait..." placeholder, so we could not confirm even the link placements against a live page. TikTok’s seller education pages return an authentication error to anyone not signed in as a seller. That leaves a large quantity of third-party articles asserting a follower threshold, none of which cite TikTok, and several of which disagree with each other. We are not adding to that pile. If you need the current rule, the app is the primary source and the test above reads it directly.

What to do if you do not have the field

One profile slot has to serve every product a creator has ever recommended. That is the structural problem, and it is not solved by a better link.

The one-slot problem, and the real fix

Even with the field enabled, a bio link is a single door for an entire catalogue. A viewer who saw one specific product in one specific video lands on a page that is not about that product, and most of them stop there.

Last verified 1 September 2026 against three routes to TikTok's own documentation, all of which failed from this host. No eligibility threshold, follower count or account-type rule is asserted on this page, and the link placements above are stated as in-app behaviour to check, not as something we verified

Some links here are affiliate links. LinkToLooks has earned $0 from them to date — no network has approved us yet — so nothing on this page is picked to hit a payout.

Frequently asked

Do TikTok bio links work?

Yes, from the profile’s website field, when that field is available to your account. Links in captions, in the bio text and in comments are not clickable.

How many followers do you need for a link in your TikTok bio?

We will not quote a number. A threshold is widely repeated online but we could not verify it against a TikTok source, because the relevant help page does not render its text to a non-JavaScript client and the seller pages are behind a sign-in. Open Edit profile and look for the Website field: that answers it for your account definitively.

Can you put a clickable link in a TikTok caption?

No. Captions are not hyperlinked, so a URL there is plain text.

Are links in TikTok comments clickable?

No, including in your own pinned comment. A pinned comment is still useful as a signpost to your profile, but the tap has to happen on the profile.

What should I do if my account has no website field?

Name another platform in the video and put the link on that profile, or use in-app commerce if you are eligible. Do not paste URLs into captions as a substitute.
