Can you put affiliate links on Quora? Not in an answer
Quora is the one platform in our series whose rulebook bans affiliate links in so many words, so the useful questions are what the ban covers, what it leaves open, and what a creator can link instead.
Part of: For creators
No, not in answers. Quora’s Question and Answer Policies say it in five words: “Affiliate links are not allowed.” The same list bars self-promotional links that are not part of a direct and helpful response, and says an answer should make sense without leaving Quora.
We read six of Quora’s help-centre policies on 27 September 2026. The ban sits in the answer rules; the Spaces policies do not mention affiliate links, and Quora runs a referral scheme of its own that pays creators for sign-ups.
The six documents, and what each says
| Quora document | Last edited | What it says that matters here |
|---|---|---|
| Question and Answer Policies | 4 Jun 2025 | “Affiliate links are not allowed.” Disclose relevant affiliations in the answer or credential; self-promotional links must be part of a direct, helpful answer; an answer must make sense without leaving Quora |
| Disclosing affiliations in answers | 27 Sep 2022 | A relevant affiliation is anything a reasonable observer would think important; financial interests count; when in doubt, disclose |
| Reviews of businesses, products or services | 27 Sep 2022 | Reviews should state their basis, rest on the writer’s actual experience, and disclose any affiliation or compensation |
| Platform Policies, “Spam” | 19 Nov 2025 | No irrelevant answers, link-stuffed question edits, promotional questions or excessive promotion of one product, when done to drive traffic or for money |
| Spaces Policies | 23 Jun 2025 | The word affiliate does not appear; the platform spam rules apply |
| Quora+ referral links FAQ | 18 Aug 2022 | Creators may share a personal referral link and earn part of new members’ fees; local law may require disclosure |
All read on help.quora.com on 27 September 2026; edit dates are each article’s own. Main source: Question and Answer Policies.
The affiliate sentence sits in a short list of rules for writing answers, directly after the rule on disclosing affiliations. Read together, Quora separates the two: you must say when you have an interest in what you recommend, and you may not link for commission at all.

What the ban covers, and what it leaves open
- Covered, plainly: an affiliate link in an answer. No disclosure makes it allowed; the sentence has no exception.
- Covered by the spam rules: editing questions to add links, asking questions to promote a product, posting irrelevant answers, or promoting one product repeatedly, when done to drive traffic or for money.
- Not named: posts in Spaces. The Spaces Policies do not use the word affiliate. Our reading is that a Space post with affiliate links is judged by the platform spam rules and by the Space’s own moderators, not by the answer rule; Quora does not say so directly.
- Not named either: a link to your own page that itself carries affiliate links. The self-promotion rule decides that one: it must be part of a direct and helpful answer, and the answer must stand on its own without the click.
Our position, from the text: on Quora, the answer is the product. A creator who writes the complete answer and links, where useful, to their own fuller guide is inside the rules. One who writes a teaser and a link, affiliate or not, is the case the rules name.

What a creator can do instead
- Answer fully, credit your interest. If you run a shop, blog or storefront on the topic, put it in your credential; Quora’s affiliation rule asks for exactly that.
- Link your own page only when it adds something. A comparison table or measurements too long for an answer is the kind of link the self-promotion rule tolerates; a page that repeats the answer does not.
- Name products without linking them. A reader who wants the item can search for it, and your answer stays within the rules.
- Quora’s own referral link. Quora+ creators can share a personal referral link and earn a portion of new members’ dues. It is the one commission link Quora documents, and it is for Quora’s subscription, not for products.
How Quora compares with the other platforms
Across the rulebooks we have read for this series, Quora is the only one that forbids affiliate links outright in its main content type:
| Platform | Affiliate links in the main content | Our page |
|---|---|---|
| Quora | Not allowed in answers | This page |
| Medium | Allowed with disclosure; sponsorships banned | Medium |
| X | Allowed as a labelled paid partnership; 11 categories barred | Affiliate links on X (Twitter) |
| Substack | Allowed; no tools; link-only publications banned | Substack |
| Tumblr | Allowed; blogs whose primary purpose is affiliate marketing banned | Tumblr |
| Mastodon | Set by each server; 19 of the 60 largest ban advertising | Mastodon |
What we could not verify
- Quora’s own terms pages. quora.com showed our browser a verification check on 27 September 2026 that did not clear, and we do not complete those, so we read the help centre only.
- Enforcement. How Quora detects or acts on affiliate links is not published; we did not post.
- Spaces. Whether Quora applies the answer rule to Space posts is our reading, not a stated rule.
- When the ban began. The Question and Answer Policies article was created on 19 September 2022; we did not trace earlier versions.
What to do this week
- Remove affiliate links from any Quora answers you have written; edit rather than delete, so the answer stays.
- Add your shop, storefront or site to your answer credential where it is relevant.
- Rewrite link-first answers so the whole answer is on Quora and any link is to a page that adds something.
- Keep affiliate links for platforms whose rules allow them, with disclosure.
Frequently asked
Are affiliate links allowed on Quora?
Not in answers. Quora's Question and Answer Policies, last edited 4 June 2025, say: "Affiliate links are not allowed." The same policy also bars self-promotional links that are not part of a direct and helpful response.
Can I link to my own blog in a Quora answer?
Only as part of a direct and helpful response. Quora says self-promotional links that are not part of such a response are not allowed, and an answer that cannot be understood without leaving Quora, and appears to do so for promotion, may be collapsed or removed.
Do I have to disclose affiliations on Quora?
Yes. Quora asks writers to disclose any relevant affiliation, including financial interests, in the answer or in the credential shown with it, and says that when in doubt you should disclose.
Can I earn from links on Quora at all?
Quora runs its own referral scheme: Quora+ creators can share a personal referral link and receive a portion of new members' fees. Quora notes that the law where you live may require you to disclose that.
