Can you put affiliate links on Lemon8? Yes, but they will not click
Lemon8 has no rule against affiliate links, and that is the least useful thing about it: a caption link shows as plain text, a sales post is kept out of the For You feed, and the disclosure rule you must follow is TikTok’s.
Part of: For creators
Yes, you may post one, and three things limit what it does. Lemon8’s Community Guidelines never mention affiliate links. Its Terms send anyone paid to promote a brand to TikTok’s Branded Content Policy, which names affiliate links and promo codes, so a commission post needs a disclosure. The guidelines list “actively marketing or promoting any product” as ineligible for the For You feed. And on the public pages we opened, a URL in a caption did not render as a link.
We read Lemon8’s US rules and the policy they point to on 28 September 2026, and opened one shopping account’s public profile: 20 posts, 20 links written as text, 0 clickable.
The three documents, and what each says
| Document | Date | What matters for an affiliate post |
|---|---|---|
| Lemon8 Community Guidelines (US) | No date shown | No mention of affiliate, sponsored or disclosure. Shopping promotion is not banned, but “Advertisement” is listed as ineligible for the For You feed. Automated collection of Lemon8 information is not allowed. |
| Lemon8 Supplemental Terms of Use (US) | Effective 22 Jan 2026 | Promoting a brand “in exchange for payment or any other incentive” means following the Branded Content Policy and using appropriate disclosures, including any Lemon8 feature for it. Requires a linked TikTok account. |
| TikTok Branded Content Policy (the one Lemon8 links to) | Published 4 Aug 2026, effective 31 Aug 2026 | Branded content includes a product “for which you will receive a commission on any sales”, for example through an affiliate link or a promotional code. Lists prohibited industries. |
| Lemon8 help centre | — | The Help link on lemon8-app.com is an email address. The /help page returned “Not found”. |
All read on 28 September 2026, US versions. Sources: Lemon8 Community Guidelines, Lemon8 Supplemental Terms of Use, TikTok Branded Content Policy.
The guidelines are long, about 34,700 characters, and almost all of them deal with safety: violence, self-harm, regulated goods, youth safety. The words “affiliate”, “sponsored” and “disclosure” do not appear once. The commercial rules sit in two other places: a For You feed list inside the guidelines, and a branded-content paragraph in the Terms.
Lemon8 runs on TikTok’s rulebook
This is the fact that changes how a creator should read everything else. In the US the Terms name TikTok USDS Joint Venture LLC as the provider, require a TikTok account linked to your Lemon8 profile, and say the TikTok Terms and Community Guidelines apply on top of Lemon8’s own. The guidelines add cross-platform enforcement: a severe or repeated breach on either app can cost you the account on both, where you log in to both with the same account. A careless affiliate habit on Lemon8 is therefore a risk to a TikTok account as well.

The For You feed rule is the one that matters
Lemon8 does not remove a shopping post. It does something that matters more to a creator who wants new readers: it keeps the post out of the For You feed. The list of ineligible content ends with one line headed Advertisement:
“Actively marketing or promoting any product or service that could result in a user purchasing…”
The line goes on to cover an attempt to buy as well as a purchase, on or off the platform. Lemon8 says ineligible posts can still be found through search tools and by people who follow you. Three nearby lines on the same list catch common shopping formats too:
- Weight-loss or muscle-gain products, “such as sharing a before-and-after transformation”.
- Unoriginal content: reposted material with no new edits, such as someone else’s watermark.
- Fake engagement: “like-for-like” promises and other false incentives.
Our position, from the text: on Lemon8 the honest reading of “actively marketing” covers a post whose job is to send readers to a product page, which is what an affiliate post is. A creator who wants reach should build the post around something useful (a fit note, a comparison, a routine) with the shopping as a detail, not a list of links with a photo on top. Lemon8 does not say where it draws that line, and we have not tested it.

What we saw on public posts
Lemon8’s rules forbid collecting its information with automated scripts, so we did not sample posts at scale. We opened pages one at a time in a browser on 28 September 2026.
- One shopping account’s public profile (a US account posting Amazon clothing finds, 69,300 followers) showed 20 posts. All 20 captions carried a link-shortener URL written as text; 0 were clickable, and the page held no link to any outside site.
- 18 of those 20 captions told readers how to get round it: screenshot the link and long-press it in the camera roll, or hold it down to copy it into a browser. Several also repeated the link in a comment.
- The profile’s website field showed a link-in-bio address as text, again with no clickable link on the web page.
- In the caption previews on that profile, none carried a disclosure word such as “#ad” or “affiliate”. Previews are cut short, so this is not proof the full captions lack one.
We do not name the account; the point is the workaround, not the person. A creator writing screenshot instructions into 18 captions is strong evidence that the link does not click in the app either, but we did not sign in to the app to confirm it.
One more thing the web pages showed: below a creator’s caption, Lemon8’s public post page adds a long block of extra text, and its topic pages carry an “AI Overview” drawn from posts. Readers arriving from search may see that text before your own words.
How to disclose on Lemon8
The Terms are direct: if you post about a brand, product or service “in return for any payment or other incentive”, you must follow the Branded Content Policy and use “appropriate disclosures including any functionality the Lemon8 Service provides”. The policy that link opens is TikTok’s, published 4 August 2026 and in force from 31 August 2026, and it removes any doubt about commissions: branded content includes a product “for which you will receive a commission on any sales”, for example through an affiliate link or a promotional code.
- Use Lemon8’s own disclosure setting if your app shows one. The Terms ask for it by name. We could not see the posting screen, so we cannot say what the setting is called on Lemon8.
- Put a plain disclosure in the caption as well, near the top, because the web page shows your caption to people who never open the app. “I earn a commission if you buy through my links” is clear; a hashtag buried after twenty others is not.
- Check the product against TikTok’s prohibited industries. The list includes weight-loss products, teeth whitening, hair growth products, and supplements for babies under two. A commission on any of those is off limits as branded content, whatever the affiliate programme allows.
Where a Lemon8 creator can put a link
If a caption link will not click, the working options are the ones the platform leaves open. Ranked by how little friction they put on the reader:
- The profile website field. One address, shown on the profile. Point it at a page that lists every product you have posted, so a reader can find the item from any post. Our link-in-bio comparison covers the tools.
- A product name a reader can search. Name the exact product, colour and size in the caption. A reader who cannot click can still search the retailer, and you lose the commission but keep the reader’s trust.
- A short, readable URL written in the caption. This is what the account we read does, with instructions. It works, it is clumsy, and it asks a lot of the reader.
- Your other platforms. Because Lemon8 can cross-post with TikTok, a post can send readers to where the link does work. Our TikTok bio link guide covers who gets a clickable bio link there.
What we could not verify
- The app. We did not sign in. Whether a caption link is clickable inside the app, and what Lemon8’s disclosure setting is called, are unconfirmed. The screenshot instructions suggest links are not clickable in the app, but that is an inference.
- Where Lemon8 draws the “actively marketing” line. The rule is one sentence; Lemon8 publishes no examples of a post that passes.
- Other regions. We read the US documents. The site defaulted to the Singapore edition from our connection, so check your own region’s version.
- A help centre. Lemon8’s Help link is an email address and its /help page returned “Not found”, so there is no official how-to to check this page against.
- Scale. One account’s 20 posts show what a determined affiliate poster does. They are not a sample of Lemon8.
This page is not legal advice.
Last verified 28 September 2026 against Lemon8’s US Community Guidelines and Supplemental Terms, TikTok’s Branded Content Policy, and one public Lemon8 profile opened in a browser
What to do this week
- Pick one address for your Lemon8 website field and make it a page that lists every product you post.
- Rewrite your caption template so the product’s exact name comes first and the disclosure sits in the first two lines.
- Turn on any branded-content or disclosure setting the posting screen offers you on commission posts.
- Run your affiliate programmes past TikTok’s prohibited industries list before you post them on Lemon8.
- Post one piece built around advice rather than links, and compare its reach with your usual format.
Frequently asked
Are affiliate links allowed on Lemon8?
Nothing in Lemon8's rules bans them. Its Community Guidelines never mention affiliate links. Its Terms say that promoting a brand for payment or any other incentive is branded content and must follow TikTok's Branded Content Policy, which counts affiliate links and promo codes as branded content that needs a disclosure.
Do links in Lemon8 captions work?
Not on the public web pages we opened on 28 September 2026. A shopping account's 20 most recent posts all carried a link as plain text, none was clickable, and 18 told readers to screenshot the link or copy it into a browser. We did not check the app.
Will a shopping post on Lemon8 reach the For You feed?
Lemon8 says no. Its For You feed standards list "actively marketing or promoting any product or service" that could lead someone to buy it, on or off the platform, as ineligible. Such posts can still be found through search and by followers.
Do I need a disclosure on Lemon8?
Yes, if you earn from the post. Lemon8's Terms require appropriate disclosures, including any disclosure feature Lemon8 provides, and point to TikTok's Branded Content Policy, which says a commission on sales through an affiliate link or promo code makes a post branded content.
Is Lemon8 part of TikTok?
In the United States the Lemon8 Terms name TikTok USDS Joint Venture LLC as the provider, require a TikTok account linked to your Lemon8 profile, and say serious or repeated breaches can be enforced on both apps.
Method and sources
- Lemon8 Community Guidelines, US edition (lemon8-app.com), read in full in a browser on 28 September 2026, including the collapsed “More Information” sections; searched for affiliate, sponsor, disclos and link.
- Lemon8 Supplemental Terms of Use, US, effective 22 January 2026 (lemon8-app.com): the Branded Content paragraph and the account and enforcement clauses.
- TikTok Branded Content Policy, published 4 August 2026, effective 31 August 2026 (tiktok.com), opened from the link in Lemon8’s Terms.
- One public US Lemon8 profile and one of its posts, opened in a browser on 28 September 2026: posts, link-shortener URLs in captions, screenshot instructions and outside links counted on the page. Not a sample; no script collected Lemon8 data.
